News Wrap-up: Minister Explains His Hotel Pool Proposal

Nov 23, 2018

Water Safety Is No Laughing Matter

The Education Minister is upset that his suggestion for hotels to open up their pools for students to learn swimming has been made fun of.

Dr Maszlee Malik said water safety is not a trivial issue and should not be taken lightly.

He also clarified his suggestion for hotels to offer their pools is only a proposal and not a compulsion.

Parents and hotel associations had reacted badly to Maszlee's suggestion, with most of them concerned about safety at hotel pools.

Politicians Free To Enter Schools

An 10-year-old circular stating that politicians need permission to enter schools will be revised today.

The Education Minister says this is in the spirit of New Malaysia.

Dr Mazslee had been under fire for the past few days for saying Opposition MPs need permission to enter schools.

He has since clarified the permission applies to politicians from both sides of the divide.

Better Reproductive Health Programmes On The Way

Still on schools, the government is looking to enhance reproductive and social health programmes, in a bid to solve underage marriage and sexual harassment against children.

The DPM says such programmes are already available, but are being evaluated to see how they can bring about greater awareness.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail also wants pre-schoolers to be taught about sexual grooming.

Loan syndicates earn between RM20,000 and RM50,000 in profits each day!

KL Police say the scammers trick their victims into paying exorbitant fees to secure non-existant loans, with each scammer given a script of lies to recite to their victims.

The scammers don't even have to meet their victims face to face, with the entire con carried out on WhatsApp or over the phone.
