Waytha calls for calm amid Subang temple riot

Nov 26, 2018

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P. Waytha Moorthy has called for calm following this morning's scuffle at a Hindu temple in Subang Jaya.

The Minister in charge of national unity says the police have promised that a thorough investigation will be conducted.

"We call for a full and independent inquiry by the police, to establish who is behind this serious attack and the motive. Those responsible for this violence must be arrested and punished. This investgation should be conducted by Bukit Aman and not left to the Subang Jaya police to handle."

Also, the Selangor Menteri Besar has cautioned all quarters against making racist statements, or comments that can stoke hatred against any group.

Seven people have been arrested over the incident.

Two of them were detained in hospital, where they were seeking treatment for their injuries.

Selangor police say the scuffle broke out, due to an arguement about the temple’s relocation.

Meanwhile, the developer, who owns the plot of land where the temple is located, has dismissed claims that it was involved in the scuffle.

It says it will not hesitate to take legal action action anyone who makes baseless allegations that they are behind this morning’s incident.
