Chaos at Hindu Temple Causes Massive Jam; Police Rule Out Racism

Nov 26, 2018

A pre-dawn scuffle between 2 groups of people at a Hindu Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya this morning, saw 18 vehicles set on fire.

Several people were also reportedly injured, while morning traffic was affected.

2 men receiving treatment at Serdang Hospital have been arrested in connection to the ruckus.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor says the altercation was caused by a misunderstanding between the 2 groups, regarding the temple’s planned re-location.

“It had nothing to do with racism,” clarified Datuk Mazlan at a press conference in Subang Jaya.

“Those who are viralling messages on this - Stop it.”

“The police will take action against those sharing such messages, as it can anger.”

The temple is said to be more than 100 years old.

18 vehicles and 2 motorbikes were set on fire during the scuffle, while a police patrol car was also damaged by rocks thrown by a rioter.

The LDP was totally closed to traffic from Puchong heading towards Shah Alam and Alam Megah, causing a 2-kilometer jam in both directions.

Onlookers also parked their cars by the side of the road, worsening the traffic congestion.

Later in the morning, over ten police trucks and a team of police personnel armed with batons lined the front of the temple, to prevent further chaos.
