Cabinet allows cops to probe under POCA and SOSMA

Dec 03, 2018

The police are allowed to use certain Acts that are under review, to help them keep the situation under control in the wake of the Subang Jaya temple issue.

This includes the Prevention of Crime Act or POCA, the Prevention of Terrorism Act, the Sedition Act and the Security Offences Special Measures Act or SOSMA.

The Home Minister says there is a moratorium on these acts, but the cops are being allowed to use them, given the current situation.

In related development, the fireman who was injured in the recent temple riots, is no longer on life support.

The Bomba director-general says Muhammad Adib Mohd Kasim's heart is now able to function on its own, although he still needs a ventilator for his lungs.

The injured fireman is now classified as being in critical but stable condition.

MOH addresses AIDS in the country

An average of nine new HIV cases and two Aids-related deaths are reported every single day nationwide.

The Health Ministry says as of last year, there were more than 72,000 HIV-positive patients in the country.

Speaking in conjunction with World Aids Day on Saturday, it also said only about half of the patients are receiving anti-retroviral treatment, mainly due to the misconceptions about HIV.

It is hoping to raise this figure up to 95 per cent, by the year 2030.
