Amar Singh retires, but 1MDB probe goes on

Dec 05, 2018

The IGP says Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes director Datuk Seri Amar Singh's retirement will not affect 1MDB investigations.

Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun says the probe will now be handled by the acting CCID chief Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin.

Amar called time on his career after 35 years on the force.

He was supposed to retire earlier this year, but his contract was extended so that he could spearhead the police probe into 1MDB.

No more way around your PTPTN loan repayments!

PTPTN has provided more details about its new loan repayment scheme, which will come into effect next year.

Under the new mechanism, announced under Budget 2019, employees who have PTPTN loans will have a percentage of their salaries deducted every month for repayments.

As for borrowers who are self-employed, or have no formal employment, the PTPTN chairman says they will have to verify their income information on PTPTN's website to enjoy the repayment facilities.

PTPTN adds that starting next year, discounts will no longer be given for lump sum repayments.

Almost 100 arrested over Subang Jaya temple riot

Police say another 16 people have been arrested over the recent violence at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya.

This brings the total number of those arrested to 99.

Meanwhile, the temple's task force is urging the government to form a Royal Commission of Inquiry to look into the scuffle last week.

It believes this will shed light on what happened, and stop widespread rumours.
