Bill to abolish mandatory death penalty to be tabled in March

The bill to scrap the mandatory death penalty is on track to be tabled at the next parliamentary sitting in March.
The PM's Dept says the Attorney General's Chambers is now in the final stages of preparations on the bill.
Earlier, the cabinet decided to do away with mandatory death sentences for 33 offences including murder.

Tok Mat named UMNO acting president

UMNO has named Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan as the party's acting president.
This after Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi anounced that he will be taking leave, and handing over his responsibilities to his deputy while he is away.
Umno has yet to explain why Zahid chose to take gardening leave, instead of stepping down.
This, amid a wave of defections from the party since GE14.

Two Ministries will collaborate with the Federal Territories Mufti to handle social issues affecting young Malaysians.
They are Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and the Youth and Sports Ministry.
They intend to tackle issues like the rise in underage pregnancies, baby dumping, marriages, divorces and mental health problems.

Starting next year, the Education Ministry will implement a Zero Reject Policy for all students in stages.
The policy aims to ensure that all children in the country, including special needs and undocumented children, have access to education.
The Ministry says it will identify the special needs and the differently-abled students so that early intervention can be given before they start school.
