EC: Not necessary for candidates to undergo medical exam

Jan 18, 2019

The Semenyih state by-election in Selangor will be held on March 2nd.

The Election Commission says nominations day falls on February 16th, while early voting is set for February 26th

Yesterday, PAS confirmed that it will not contest in the by-election, and will instead support whoever is fielded by BN.

The seat fell vacant last week following the death of incumbent Bakhtiar Mohd Nor of Bersatu due to a heart attack.

Semenyih is the 6th by-election to have taken place since GE14.

In related news, the Election Commission has ruled out forcing candidates to undergo medical checks before allowing them to contest in elections.

It says no one can predict things like death.

4 out of the six by-elections since GE14 were held due to their incumbents passing away.
