Govt may introduce a law to regulate fake news

The government is not giving up on trying to regulate social media. 

The Communications and Multimedia Minister says there are plans to introduce a law to prevent the misuse of social media, as fake news can spread hatred and extremist ideologies. 

The plan is to develop a regulatory system that can detect whether a report is true or false. 

Seperately, Minister Gobind Singh Deo has clarified there are no restrictions on what RTM can report regarding the Opposition, contrary to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's claim.

Malaysian Overseas Employees Management Centre to be revived

The government is planning to revive the Malaysian Overseas Employees Management Centre, to protect Malaysians seeking jobs in foreign countries. 

The Human Resource Minister said the centre has become ineffective due to a lack of officers.

This comes after the case where 47 Malaysians were duped into working for an online gambling syndicate in Cambodia.

Still on that case, Sarawak's Santubong MP Datuk Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has slammed the state's MTUC, for claiming the state government didn't create enough jobs. 

Junaidi explained most of the Sarawakians who were duped by the syndicate already had full-time jobs, but were lured by the high wages promised for the Cambodia job.

Number of civil servants can only be reduced in the long run

Civil servants can breath easy, as the Prime Minister is not about to go on a firing spree. 

Concerns were raised after Tun M said yesterday, the number of civil servants have to be reduced.

However, the Home Minister clarified, Tun M meant the numbers will be cut down in the long run, as the government moves into the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin adds he doesn't expect the change to happen in the next five years.
