News Wrap-up: Malaysians say projecting the environment is important, as they continue sipping on plastic straws

A survey has revealed that Malaysians have a hypocritical attitude when it comes to conservation. 

The Star, citing a YouGov Survey found that over 90 percent of Msians believe that preserving the environment is important. 

But at the same time, 1 in 5 Msians admit that they still use single-use plastic straws every day. 

When it comes to reusable straws, only a quarter of people surveyed said they have own one. 

Interestingly, people aged 35 to 44, and those WITHOUT a uni degree are more likely to have their own reusable straws.

Also, 24 percent of respondents admitted to using plastic bags at least once a day.

2 schools affected by the hazardous chemical dumping case in Pasir Gudang, Johor are only expected to reopen tomorrow at the earliest. 

State officials say that the area is completely free of the toxic fumes, before allowing students and teachers to go back. 

In all, some 80 people were affected, after irresponsible parties dumped the hazardous waste into a river several days ago. 

Meanwhile, the govt says cleanup works alongside the whole stretch of the river will begin soon, and it will take around 5 days to complete.

The Health Ministry says plans to make 2 vaccinations compulsory for children will NOT happen anytime soon, as the law needs to be amended first. 

The two vaccines are MMR for measles, mumps and rubella, as well as the dipththeria vaccine.
