Teh tarik is still unhealthy, but it's safe from taxes

The 40 sen per litre sugar tax that comes into force on July 1st will not affect drinks prepared at mamaks and food kiosks.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said, "It's all the better that we educate people not to have sweet drinks, coloured sweet drinks that are being served in restaurants, but nothing in the way of regulations."

The Sugar Tax, which affects overly sweet beverages like some fruit and vegetable juices, was supposed to come into force last week, but implementation was pushed to July 1st.

Did you know you could've taken just one subject for SPM instead of six or more?

Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching says students are allowed to take Bahasa Melayu as a single paper for SPM.

However, students who do so will only get a result slip for that subject.

Only those who take all six compulsory subjects and scored at least credits for both the BM and History papers, will get the full SPM certificate. 

Nie Ching was replying to a question in Dewan Rakyat on whether SPM would be made into an open examination, where candidates would be allowed to sit for a single subject.

More Rohingyas come ashore 

A second wave of Rohingyas have arrived in Perlis.

It's believed they were abandoned at sea by the boat skipper whom they had paid to get them into Malaysia. 

47 people landed and most of them have been arrested, although six are still missing. 

It comes just a month after 35 other Rohingyas were found at the same beach.

Police also believe there are more boats are out there, with a total of about 200 Rohingyas on board.
