Tun M rates his ministers

May 07, 2019

Cabinet gets a modest score from the boss

5 out of 10... that's the PM's scoring of his cabinet.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said his ministers are still new and don't really know how a government functions yet, so they require a lot of guidance.

He adds ministers regularly go to him for advice, but they're learning fast.

Malaysians seem to agree that our ministers lack experience.

That was the top answer on our Astro Radio News Twitter poll about what's the biggest challenge faced by Pakatan Harapan in their short time in power.

26% of respondents also believe the high expectations of the rakyat was a tough hurdle.

More 1MDB-related charges to come

Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng has been temporarily handed over to the US for 10 months.

He will face three criminal charges related to 1MDB in America.

After those charges are settled, Roger will be repatriated to Malaysia to face charges, also in connection to 1MDB.

EU accused of launching trade war

The Primary Industries Minister has accused the EU of launching a trade war against Malaysia and Indonesia over a plan to curb the use of palm oil in biofuels.

Teresa Kok threatened retaliatory action, saying the government may reduce imports from Europe and source from other countries instead.

The Transport Minister said vehicle owners can seek exemption from the new ruling on health or safety reasons, but will have to pay extra for the application.
