DAP's Vivian Wong has won the Sandakan by-election, taking the parliamentary seat with an over 11.5 thousand majority over Datuk Linda Tsen of PBS.
Vivian is the youngest daughter of the late Stephen Wong, who's passing on March 28 triggered the by-election.
At 30, she will also be the youngest woman to enter Parliament.
The win snaps Pakatan Harapan's run of three straight by-election defeats, having lost earlier in Cameron Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau.
The turnout in Sandakan, however, was lower than expected - at just over 54% of voters casting their ballots.
It fell short of the Election Commission's targetted 70%.
Bomba addresses drowning cases
The Fire and Rescue Department is organising more water safety campaigns nationwide, to help counter the alarming number of drowning cases.
These campaigns will be carried out especially before and during school holidays, when most people tend to visit beaches and waterfalls.

It says last year alone, more than 400 such cases were reported.
Foreign peddlers in Jonker Walk
A Melaka exco member is urging the Immigration Department to act against foreigners who are peddling ornamental items and paintings in the popular Jonker Walk attraction.
He said the local council did act against the foreigners on several occasions, only for them to return.

The state Housing, Local Government and Environment Committee chairman also told The Star, that foreigners begging on the streets was also becoming rampant in Melaka.
