No-go for anti-vax talk

The Youth and Sports Minister has banned an anti-vaccination seminar from taking place at a government-owned youth centre in Cheras. 

Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman Tweeted that free speech has limits, and he will not condone something that could cause deaths. 

According to the event's poster, the talk is about the supposed hidden dangers of vaccines and even called herd immunity a myth.

Health experts have long warned that misconceptions about vaccines and people spreading lies are among the reasons why long-eradicated diseases like measles are making a comeback. 

Playgrounds should be safer

Children's playgrounds are not as safe as they should be. 

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) says 530 cases of playground-related accidents were reported between 2014 and 2016.

They include children getting caught by broken equipment and tripping over uneven playing surfaces.

As such, NIOSH has urged the government to make the Standards of Playground Safety Guidelines mandatory in the planning process for playgrounds.

The Malaysian Bar has urged the government to set up the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), immediately! 

This comes after the police force finally agreed for the body to be set up.

The Bar said the IPCMC is constitutional and does not undermine the powers of the IGP.

It also believes the body will enhance the standing of the police force in the eyes of Malaysians.
