May 23, 2019

The 5th Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah has been laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum in Pekan.

An 88-gun salute, symbolising the former Sultan of Pahang's age, was fired as the remains of Sultan Ahmad Shah was taken to the royal burial ground earlier this afternoon.

Hundreds of locals from Pahang lined the streets to pay their last respects to the 5th sultan of the state.

This morning, the Pahang palace was flooded with thousands of mourners, including Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, members of the royal family, and the Sultan of Brunei.

Sultan Ahmad Shah passed away at the National Heart Institute yesterday morning at the age of 88.

The Health Ministry says it fully encourages insurance companies to provide coverage for mental illness.

However, it pointed out that such a move actually falls under the jurisdiction of Bank Negara.

It was responding to the Malaysia Psychiatric Association's call for the ministry to push insurance companies to provide mental health coverage.

England will ban the use of plastic straws, drink stirrers, and plastic-stemmed cotton buds from April next year, in a move to reduce plastic waste.

Scotland and Wales are also proposing similar bans.

But, there will be some exceptions to the plastic straw ban, such as for people with medical needs or disabilities.

This is similar to moves in Malaysia..

KL introduced a plastic straw ban at the start of the year, while Selangor will follow suit on July 1st.
