Cash woes blamed for divorces

May 26, 2019

Money woes

Nearly half of all divorce cases involving non-Muslim couples in the country, are caused by financial problems.

Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Hannah Yeoh says of the nearly seven thousand divorce cases last year, almost three thousand of them were related to financial problems in the family.

She adds that whats even more worrying is that the number of divorces could also be contributing to the rise in child abuse cases.

Danger on the road

More than half of all private vehicles in the country that undergo safety inspections, do not meet Puspakom's standards.

It says the areas that most frequently fail testing are the braking system, followed by the slide-slip test and emissions.

This not only increases the risk of vehicles getting involved in accidents, but also contributes to air pollution.

Better water supply soon

More water treatment plants will be built to further improve the water supply system in the country.

The Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry says the matter will be included in the 12th Malaysia Plan, and is expected to be fully implemented in the next 10 to 15 years.

Let the kids (and teachers) enjoy their break

The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) says extra classes or academic programs should not be held during school holidays.

This is because students and teachers are already burdened during the school term, and need the holidays to rest and recover.
