Cut out middlemen to keep prices down

May 30, 2019

Goods can be cheaper

Tun Daim Zainuddin says there's a way to slash the prices of goods - just cut out the middleman.

The former Finance Minister told Astro Awani, middlemen are driving up prices by demanding high profits.

As such, he urged relevant ministries to come together to discuss the issue as soon as possible.

Tun Daim also says bad communication from ministers is affecting the ringgit.

He says ministers should check with their press secretaries to understand the full impact before issuing any statements.

He says an example of bad communication would be announcing that eight million tax notices have been issued.

Tun Daim feels this creates a culture of fear and makes Malaysians scared to spend money.

Blanket ban not the way to go...

The Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association and the Malaysia Plastic Recyclers Association are against calls by NGOs to ban all plastic waste imports.

The two associations said blanket bans do not address smuggling and can hurt legitimate businesses.

They are also worried there would be a repeat of a suspected arson attack in Kedah that recently destroyed a licensed and legal recycling factory.

This comes as Malaysia is struggling to send back plastic rubbish sent from other countries.

You'll get your money back

Don't worry, TNB will re-credit your bill if you really were overcharged!

Amid the uproar about abnormally high electricity bills, TNB assured every complaint will be investigated and follow-up action taken.

Negligence and a technical fault have been blamed for the problem.
