Viral videos have helped PDRM

Jun 10, 2019

Viral videos have actually done some good

Viral videos have helped the police solve some 30 criminal cases so far this year.

Federal Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk Huzir Mohamed said that's around 80% of crimes caught on video and made viral by netizens.

However, as much as the police are thankful, Datuk Huzir also urged netizens not to share old videos, because that makes it seem like the police are not doing their job.

Those who have footage of crimes to share can forward them to PDRM via WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter.

Push for labour law reforms

MTUC is pushing for labour law reforms to improve working conditions for Malaysians.

Among the demands are a cost of living allowance of RM300, 98-day maternity leave and 7-day paternity leave.

The Congress also wants to make it compulsory for all workers to join a union so that their rights will be protected.

The government is in the process of reviewing three labour laws - as promised in the Pakatan Harapan election manifesto.

Committee seeks meeting with PM

The Parliamentary Select Committee still wants to meet with the PM on Latheefa Koya's appointment as MACC chief, despite Tun M saying he won't change his mind.

The committee's chairman says they want to clarify the committee's functions.

It was set up to give input on appointments to key national positions, as per the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, but it was reportedly not consulted in Latheefa's appointment, as well as several others.

Say 'No' to plastic bags

Perak plans to extend its "No-Plastic Bag" campaign to three days a week instead of just every Saturday.

This comes after Penang declared that from next month, traders will be encouraged not to give plastic bags to consumers every Monday, even if the customers are willing to pay.
