Chemistry Dept uncovers E-coli in Kg Kuala Koh as of now

Jun 17, 2019

There is no heavy metal or chemical contamination at Sungai Lebir, at Kampung Kuala Koh, Kelantan.

It's the main water source for the Batek Tribe there, and authorities suspected pollution could have caused the mysterious disease that killed 14 villagers recently.

But the Chemistry Department found no such contaminants - what it did find was e-coli.

However, it does not believe that's what killed the villagers, as the bacteria is commonly found in all rivers in Malaysia and be easily killed off by boiling the water.

Meanwhile, the mysterious disease plaguing the Batek Tribe has caused many members of the neighbouring Semaq Beri tribe to abandon their homes.

150 members of the Orang Asli tribe moved away out of fear they would be infected as well.
