JAKOA moves to move Batek Tribe

Jun 19, 2019

The Batek Tribe in Gua Musang will be moved to a better living environment soon.

The Orang Asli Development Department, JAKOA, is facilitating the move and the Kelantan government says it will not interfere.

This comes after 15 members of the tribe passed away because of a measles outbreak, which has now spread to Orang Asli tribes in Pahang and Terengganu.

The Health Ministry will also work with JAKOA to persuade the Orang Asli to get vaccinations against preventable diseases.

Only 60% of the Batek Tribe at Kampung Kuala Koh received the first of their two measles vaccine shots.

Wan Azizah calls for regional data on convicted sex offenders to be shared

Deputy Prime Minister Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail wants ASEAN countries to share information about convicted sex offenders, so that they can't cross borders undetected.

"We must share immigration data so we'll know if there are convicts entering the country, and we can take the appropriate action."

She said this will help prevent another devastating case of child exploitation, quoting the case of Richard Huckle, who's known as Britain's worst paedophile.

Some of his known victims are Malaysians and Cambodians.

Sosco extended to agriculture workers

The Human Resources Ministry is planning to extend Socso to farmers, rubber smallholders and fishermen as they are at high risk of being injured on the job.

From next month, it'll be compulsory for taxi, Grab and bus drivers to make Socso contributions.
