17 Pasir Gudang schools close amid air pollution
Jun 24, 2019
More schools have been ordered to close because of air pollution in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
In total, 17 schools and kindergartens in the affected area of Taman Mawar will be shut until Thursday as a precaution, after dozens of students suffered breathing difficulties.
Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar, the Johor State Health, Culture and Heritage Committee Chairman says they're closing in on the cause of the pollution, adding that tests have also cleared the affected students.
Meanwhile, the Department of Environment has also beefed up monitoring of an illegal dumpsite in Pasir Gudang, as part of investigations into the pollution.
They are also going back to check the Sungai Kim Kim area, which was the scene of chemical waste contamination back in March, to see if anything may have been dumped there again, that could be contributing to the problem this time around.

Hishammuddin calls for impartiality in land-swap deals probe
Former Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein is urging the MACC not to be selective in its investigation into the land-swap deal involving the Ministry.
Hisham says all previous Defense Ministers or even Prime Ministers should also be called up, to find out exactly what happened:
"We want to find out the truth. Let's get to the bottom of this. I've always maintained that if it's wrong, it's wrong. Doesn't matter who."
Hisham himself was questioned for nearly seven hours by the MACC yesterday, over the land swap deals.
