Smoking ban at open-air eateries will be strictly enforced

There will be no postponement of the penalties for those who smoke at open-air restaurants. 

The Health Ministry says it will start to imposing fines to offenders as scheduled, on January 1st next year. 

It also wants to educate the public that the smoking ban is for the people's own health, especially with the rising number of patients suffering from smoking-related illnesses.

In a related development, the Health Ministry has also set up a special committee to look into the use of vape and e-cigarettes in the country, as part of its commitment to seriously tackling the issue.

Tun M: Parliament to table motion for MPs to declare assets

The government will table a motion to compel all MPs to declare their income and assets to the MACC. 

The Prime Minister says this is important to prevent people in power from using their influence for personal gain.

Tun M did not elaborate on when the motion will be tabled, although the next sitting of Parliament begins next week.

MOHR calls for employers to comply with minimum wage, or face action

Random checks by the Human Resources Ministry has found that 30 percent of employers questioned nationwide, were not complying with the RM1,100 minimum wage. 

The main offenders were small food shops and textile business operators. 

The Ministry says offenders will be given a month to comply with the minimum wage, after which action will be taken.
