Met Dept admits weakness in warning system
Aug 13, 2019
The Met Department is sorry it failed to warn the nation of Typhoon Lekima, blaming a weakness in its system.
The huge storm damaged thousands of schools and homes in the north coast on Friday, but no one was prepared because Met warned of strong winds and not a typhoon.
The effects were felt in Perak, Selangor, Perlis and Penang while Kedah was hit particularly hard.
The Prime Minister has promised aid, with the amount depending on what the government can afford.
