Court rejects smoking ban review

Oct 29, 2019

The KL High Court has dismissed a suit filed by a group of Malaysians, who claimed that the govt's smoking ban at food outlets was unconstitutional.

The judge said that the ban NOT violate smokers' right to freedom of choice

The Health Minister welcomed the decision, and said his office will continue to push for a healthy environment for all Malaysians.

The recent flight disruptions at KLIA were NOT due to a cyber attack.

According to a probe by the Transport Ministry, it was due to its ageing core network switches system, which had never been changed since the airport began operations in 1998.

Its minister adds that police are still conducting their own investigations, to see if there were any elements of sabotage.

The system failure hit the KLIA's Total Airport Management System last month, causing major flight delays.

A Penang exco member says the govt should impose a curfew on alcohol consumption, to curb drunk-driving accidents.

This is in response to the death of a local council officer, who was hit by an alleged drunk driver in George Town last week.

The exco says such time restrictions are nothing new - for example, a town in New Zealand has an alcohol curfew from 9pm to 7am in specific locations.
