Another step towards de-criminalising drug addiction

Oct 30, 2019

The government has set up a special task force to expedite the process of de-criminalising drug addiction.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq says his ministry is involved because the ratio of youth to adult drug addicts is around 3 to 1.

He believes rehabilitation is the answer, not imprisonment...and stressed that there is a big difference between addicts and drug traffickers.

Syed Saddiq adds that most of the addicts sitting in jail are living below the poverty line and cannot afford a lawyer.

No DAP-LTTE link

The Home Minister has confirmed that there is no link between DAP and the Tamil Tigers Terror Group.

In responding to questions from the Opposition, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the arrests of two DAP members is based on the actions of individuals and not the party.

The two state assemblymen were among eight others charged in courts across six states yesterday over alleged links to LTTE.

As SOSMA detainees they were not allowed bail and will be detained at the Sungai Buloh Prison until case mention, which is set for either November or December.

Another round of water cuts

If you live in the Klang Valley, it's time to start storing water again.

120,000 households in Gombak and parts of KL will suffer water disruptions for about 23 hours, from 9pm tomorrow.

Air Selangor say its because of emergency maintenance work at the Kepong Estate Water Pool, which is experiencing a serious leak.
