Retirement age will remain at 60

Nov 13, 2019

The HR Minister says the retirement age will remain at 60, despite calls for it to be increased to 65.

He says there is no reason for an extension, as it could have an impact on youths who are looking for a job.

In addition, he says a higher retirement age could also hurt productivity, because of health issues and reduced physical abilities of older workers.

Men working in the private sector could soon be given 7 days paternity leave

The Women's Aid Organisation organisation says it's high time for Msia to have a law on paternity leave in the private sector.

It says unlike many other countries around the world, we still lack such legislation, and this can deny new fathers a chance to bond with their newborns.

WAO is proposing for at least seven days of paternity leave.

The HR Minister says he agrees with the proposal, adding he will bring the issue to the Cabinet.

He also hopes to introduce a bill to extend both paternity AND maternity leave by the end of the next Parliamentary session, at the latest.

At least 6 people were injured after a suspected suicide bomber blew himself up at a police headquarters in Medan, Indonesia this morning.

The attack comes a month after a militant stabbed and wounded Indonesia’s former security minister.
