Tun M Will Decide the Next Education Minister

Jan 07, 2020

Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he will decide who will be the next Education Minister.

He also confirmed that he did ask former Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik to resign from the Cabinet...

Tun M says, "There were some things he did that were right. But because of some other reasons, I felt it was necessary for him to resign, and he agreed".

Dr Maszlee announced his resignation last week, saying his efforts were drowned out by the media's focus on issues such as the teaching of jawi in vernacular schools.

"Speak Up!", non-smoker's rights to clean air

If you see someone smoking at a restaurant and you're not happy about it, speak up!

The Health Ministry wants non-smokers to politely tell smokers not to light up, as everyone has a right to clean air.

As such, it has launched a campaign to empower non-smokers, noting that 80 percent of Malaysians do not smoke.

Restaurants can apply to set up designated smoking areas

Restaurant operators and eateries can apply to set up designated smoking areas at least 3 metres from their nearest table.

The Housing and Local Government minister says premise owners can apply to do so, via local councils but they will have to set up these zones at their own expense.

Meanwhile, the ministry has allocated RM1 million to set up designated smoking areas in public areas such as food courts and parks.
