Malaysia steps up efforts against coronavirus

Jan 28, 2020

Malaysia has temporarily stopped issuing travel visas to Chinese citizens from Wuhan and around the Hubei province.

This is part of measures to contain the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus.

The immigration facilities will only be re-instated when the situation returns to normal.

This, as the Health Ministry has identified 26 hospitals nationwide to handle coronavirus cases.

All private and public healthcare facilities have also been given SOP's to properly handle patients who are suspected to have contracted the virus.

Meanwhile, five suspected cases - in Langkawi, KL and Bintulu - are currently awaiting lab results.

The number of confirmed cases in Malaysia remains at four.

Now the police and the Communications and Multimedia Commission also have their hands full handling cases of fake news regarding the coronavirus.

They say they've already identified four individuals who shared unverified news on social media, who'll be called in soon for questioning.
