Ban on Chinese nationals expanded

The temporary ban on Chinese nationals from the Hubei province coming into Malaysia, has been expanded. 

It will now cover all other provinces in China that have been placed under lockdown because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says screenings at our borders will also be strengthened with more thermal scanners and lab facilities. 

Meanwhile, hospitals will be provided with more coronavirus diagnostic facilities.

It comes after the number of coronavirus infections in the country rose to 14, comprising four Malaysians and 10 Chinese nationals.

MOH prepares for Thaipusam celebrations amid coronavirus threat

Some 300 Health Ministry staff are on standby to ensure that Thaipusam celebrations this weekend go smoothly despite the coronavirus outbreak.

A Batu Caves temple official says they also have a designated quarantine area set up, as an additional precaution.

The government has already said that Thaipusam, and also Chap Goh Mei celebrations will go ahead as planned, although those taking part are urged to ensure good personal hygiene, including washing hands and using sanitizer.

MOE to discuss teaching Science and Maths in English

The Education Ministry says it wil study the recommendation by the Prime Minister, on the implementation of the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English.

It says it takes the recommendation positively, and will present a report to the Cabinet when ready.
