Sunday, Coronavirus Sunday

Feb 09, 2020

Malaysia will hold discussions with Singapore, following the country's orange-level alert in efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says the discussions, among others, will include talks on measures to be taken to protect workers from both countries.

At the moment, there are also no plans to impose travel restrictions on Malaysians and Singaporeans travelling across the border.

Dr Wan Azizah adds that there's no need to impose a blanket travel ban for all Chinese nationals for now.

Meanwhile, a 67-year-old Chinese tourist from Wuhan is the 16th patient in Malaysia that has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The woman is an acquaintance of the 14th patient to test positive for the virus here.

On a lighter note, another infected Chinese national in Johor Bahru has been discharged from hospital, and is now the country's second case of recovery from the infection.

He was the country's fourth coronavirus case recorded.

Elsewhere, Japan and the US have recorded their first deaths from the coronavirus, as a Japanese and an American, both men in their 60s, died while being treated in hospital in Wuhan, China.

According to health officials, the death toll from the virus has to risen 725 globally.
