Next Parliament sitting moved to May 18th

Mar 04, 2020

Pakatan Harapan will have to wait two more months, if they are to table a motion of no-confidence against the new Prime Minister.

This is because the upcoming sitting of Parliament has been postponed to May 18th, having originally been scheduled for next Monday.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof confirmed this, saying an official statement will be released this morning.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Annuar Musa believes it's only fair that the Dewan Rakyat sitting be postponed.

The UMNO secretary-general, whose party is part of the ruling coalition, says the new government needs time to iron out administrative issues first.

He also pointed out that the previous Pakatan Harapan administration took around two months to convene a sitting, after they came into power in 2018.

Change in federal govt seems to be affecting state govts

The fallout from the recent political turmoil continues to be felt at the state level.

In Melaka, Adly Zahari is refusing to budge, even though he was informed that he is no longer Chief Minister.

He was told to vacate his office yesterday evening, after Pakatan Harapan lost its majority in the state assembly following several cross-overs.

Adly, however, says he's staying put, as he believes he cannot be removed thru undemocratic means.

Meanwhile in Kedah, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir says PH and Bersatu still have sufficient seats to remain in power.

He says even though Bersatu at the Federal level is part of Perikatan Nasional, the party members in Kedah are loyal to him.

Positive Covid-19 infections up to 36

All seven of the country's latest Covid-19 cases are linked to one of the earlier patients.

The Health Ministry says the seven had all come into contact with the country's 26th patient - a board member with the Urban Development Authority.

One of the seven was even the Paramedic, who had provided treatment to Patient 26.
