Msia Reports Two COVID-19 Deaths

Malaysia has reported its first two deaths due to COVID-19.

The Health Ministry says the first victim is a 34 year-old Malaysian man, who attended the recent religious gathering in Seri Petaling, KL.

The second fatality is a 60-year-old man who had a history of chronic illness. 

The Ministry also said that 120 new cases were reported today, including 95 which were linked to the Seri Petaling gathering.

The total number of confirmed cases is now 673.

The IGP has clarified that the country's Movement Control Order is not a curfew or a lockdown.

Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador says this means that the public are not confined to their homes during the two week period. 

However, he says authorities will control the movement of people from state to state, to contain the spread of COVID-19. 

All Malaysians working in Singapore and Thailand will not be permitted to commute to work starting tomorrow. 

The immigration says this is in line with the government's Movement Control Order. 

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry says those who defy the government's control order could face jail time for up to two years, be fined, or both, if convicted.
