More PPE for frontliners

Mar 24, 2020

Some 33 million units of Personal Protective Equipment will be distributed to all Health Ministry facilities by the end of the week.

It is to keep medical personnel safe while treating COVID-19 patients, following reports of a shortage of such equipment at many government facilities.

This is why its crucial that the public doesn’t hoard things like face masks, to ensure there is enough supply for our frontliners.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also once again reminded there is no need to wear masks unless you have COVID-19 symptoms:

"From WHO, you only need to wear a mask when you have symptoms for example, or you’re taking care of patients Covid patients etc, or the requirements if you’re working in the hospital environment. But generally, social distancing is more than enough. It's not necessary for you to wear the mask, but some of us over do it despite the advisory being given.”

This came as the Yang DiPertuan Agong expressed his sadness and concern that several government and private healthcare workers had contracted the coronavirus.

The King also extended his appreciation for the sacrifice of our frontliners, and hopes they will remain resilient as we continue to battle COVID-19.

Kuching MP recovers from coronavirus

Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament Dr Kelvin Yii has been discharged from hospital, having recovered from COVID-19.

He spoke to us about the backlash he initially received from some people when he first announced he had tested positive for the coronavirus:

"At that period of time, I wasn't aware I was carrying the virus. I was actually asymptomatic, so naturally as an elected rep I carried out my duties to the best of my capacity, and that involves me meeting with the members of the public. Even though there were harsh comments, I don't blame them, because I understand their concern. This involves not just their own health, but also involves the health of their families.”

Dr. Kelvin also urged every Malaysian to play their part in battling the coronavirus, saying he’s confident we can all get through this together.

Police step up search of tabligh attendees

Police are doubling their efforts to track down participants of the religious gathering at a Sri Petaling mosque last month, who have yet to come forward for coronavirus screening.

The cops also lamented that tracking down these participants is taking their time and attention away from their other responsibilities.
