Number of recovered patients exceed new COVID-19 cases

Apr 17, 2020

The number of patients released from hospital today has again exceeded the number of new COVID-19 infection cases.

201 patients have been discharged compared to only 69 new infections today.

This brings Malaysia’s tally to 5,251, but only 2,000 of them are categorised as active cases.

Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says he hopes to bring down the number of active cases further, to only 500 or 1,000.

This will allow authorities to pay more attention to dealing with existing clusters and eradicating the community transmission of the disease.

Meanwhile, two more patients have died due to COVID-19, raising our death toll to 86.

Only wear face mask if sick

It is not mandatory to wear face masks in public during the Movement Control Order, if you’re healthy.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri says only those showing symptoms of infection are required to wear a mask.

He said this, in response to reports of police detaining individuals who were not wearing face masks in public.

He also heard of places like supermarkets denying entry to those not wearing one...

On another note, Datuk Seri Ismail says all food delivery drivers are now required to undergo COVID-19 health screenings.

It’s to ensure public safety.

Three additional economic sub-sectors have been allowed to operate during the third phase of the Movement Control Order.

They are hardware shops, electrical and electronic stores, as well as full laundry services.
