Matta Hails Domestic Tourism's Return

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents, MATTA has welcomed the decision to reopen domestic tourism and allow interstate travel. 

Its president told The Star that boosting domestic travel can help rejuvenate a lot of economic economic activities.

He also urged the govt to consider opening up the country’s borders to gradually, so that foreign tourists can come in.

This is part of the measures included in the Recovery MCO, which PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says will replace the current CMCO starting Wednesday.

Meanwhile, reports say nearly a thousand bookings for hotel rooms in Langkawi were made, just 45 minutes after the PM made the announcement.

Police will focus on managing traffic, once the restriction on interstate travel is lifted starting on Wednesday.

This, as PDRM expects a lot of people to return to their hometowns, due now that crossing state borders is allowed under the Recovery MCO. 

IGP Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador adds that police are studying the details of other RMCO enforcement measures, and he expects the new tasks to be laid out by tomorrow.

Motorists will no longer be able to use University Malaya's main campus as a shortcut fo travel between KL and Petaling Jaya. 

The uni says from now on access to the campus will be limited to its students and faculty staff, to limit the spread of COVID-19.
