17 new Covid-19 clusters were detected yesterday.

Fifteen of them were workplace-related clusters, while the other two were community outbreaks.

Among the workplace clusters was one involving a factory in Muar, Johor…which has more than 500 confirmed positive cases.

Overall, there are now 366 active clusters nationwide under the Health Ministry’s observation.

In a related development, the Master Builders Association of Malaysia is urging the government to fully subsidise the cost of Covid-19 screening and treatment for foreign workers.

It says this is to ease the burden on the construction industry, and to encourage more companies to send their workers for testing.

There are calls to keep public parks open

The Housing and Local Government Minister is calling for all public recreation parks to be reopened, so that people can exercise.

Zuraida Kamaruddin says local authorities and the police can help to ensure that people abide by Covid-19 SOP’s while at the parks.

She said this when asked to comment about some recreation parks being allowed to open during the MCO, while others have been ordered to close.

Warning against price hikes

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has warned businesses selling electronic and communication devices not to raise their prices to take advantage of higher demand.

The warning comes amid increased demand for gadgets like computers, tablets and smartphones because of the MCO and home-based learning.
