No Malaysians Affected In Japan Earthquake

Jan 02, 2024

no malaysians affected in japan earthquake

No Malaysians are believed to have been hurt after the massive earthquake in Japan.

Wisma Putra says its keeping a close eye on the situation there…and has not received any reports about Malaysians being affected.

It comes after a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck central Japan yesterday evening, which also triggered 1-meter high waves along parts of the country’s west coast.

At least six fatalities have been reported so far, with an unknown number of people also believed to be trapped under rubble.

Experts say the full extent of the damage and casualties will likely be known by later today.

In other news back home…the situation in flood-hit states is almost back to normal.

In Kelantan – which had been the worst-affected – the number of flood evacuees is down to around two dozen.

There are some 29 people still seeking shelter at relief centers in Pahang…while Johor has around 25 evacuees.

It is still not compulsory for students to wear uniforms to school.

The deputy Education Minister says the relaxation of the rules announced earlier still applies, meaning students are allowed to wear sports attire to school if the weather gets too hot.

It comes after students in flood-affected areas of the east coast were also informed that they can wear normal clothing to school, if their uniforms were lost or damaged in the recent floods.

The Election Commission says there are no plans at the moment to carry out a re-delineation exercise for Sabah and states in the Peninsular.

However, the commission is considering and evaluating the suitability of such a move for Sarawak.
