govt to expand wolbachia anti-dengue programme

The government will expand the Wolbachia mosquito programme, as part of ongoing efforts to combat dengue.

The Health Minister says the programme will be introduced in 10 more areas, but the exact locations have yet to be confirmed.

Under the programme, mosquitos infected with the Wolbachia bacterium are released into an area and this prevents the spread of the virus that causes dengue.

So far, it has a success rate of between 45 to 100%

Perak bomba chief, Sayani Saidon says the findings will determine if the incident was caused by arson or mischief, and this will determine the direction of the police's ongoing probe.

One suspect was arrested last week over his alleged involvement in the fire.
