17th yang di-pertuan agong takes oath of office

The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has officially begun his five-year reign as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

His Majesty took his oath of office and signed the instrument of office at Istana Negara earlier this morning.

The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah was also sworn in as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same five-year period.

Istana Negara has also announced, that the official title for the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong will be His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia.

Malaysia has ended a three-year slide to move up four places on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index to place 57th out of 108 countries.

We’ve also been ranked second in South East Asia behind Singapore…and ahead of Vietnam and Thailand.

Separately, Perak police say three cops have been arrested, in connection with a viral video allegedly showing a traffic policeman asking a foreign couple for a bribe to settle a speeding summons.

The Communications Minister says any news about a pardon for Datuk Seri Najib Razak has to come from official channels and not via unnamed sources, amid unverified claims that the Pardons Board had granted a full pardon to the former PM.
