UPSI Tragedy: MoT Revokes Bus Company's Permit

Jun 11, 2025

upsi tragedy: mot revokes bus company's permit

The Transport Ministry has revoked the permit of the bus company involved in Monday's accident that killed 15 UPSI students.

Minister, Anthony Loke says this is after investigations revealed that the company illegally leased out its permit to a third party and breached regulations by not activating its GPS monitoring system.

No appeals will be entertained, as the minister described the offences as unforgivable.

He adds the ministry will also set up a central database of bus and other public transport drivers, to ensure that those with poor driving records are blacklisted.

Meanwhile, police have so far recorded statements from 18 people regarding the crash, including 13 bus passengers.

The bus driver will be interviewed tomorrow.

This, as the government has announced additional assistance of RM10,000 to the families of those that died in the crash, while RM5,000 will be channeled to those who were injured.

Also, the Higher Education Ministry says it has received a suggestion that students should only travel during the daytime, to minimise the risk of accidents.

The accident, which killed 15 UPSI students along the East West Highway, happened in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Communications Minister says the theme for this year's National Day and Malaysia Day is ‘Malaysia MADANI, Rakyat disantuni'.

Datuk Fahmi Fadzil also announced that National Day celebrations will be held in Putrajaya, while Malaysia Day will be held in Penang.
