MoT: Kejara System Is A Failure.

Jun 13, 2025

mot: kejara system is a failure.

The Kejara system needs a major overhaul.

The system, which awards demerit points for committing traffic offences, was first introduced in 1984, while its latest iteration was implemented in 2018, under AWAS – or Automated Awarenes Safety System.

However, Transport Minister Anthony Loke admits that the current system is a failure, because of a huge loophole that allows offending motorists to avoid getting ANY demerit points, by simply not paying their summonses.

He said this following the recent bus accident that killed 15 UPSI students in Gerik, Perak.

According to police, the bus driver had a record of 18 traffic summonses, and all of them were unpaid.

--

Meanwhile, the driver has pleaded NOT guilty in court, on 15 counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

He also claimed trial on a charge of dangerous or reckless driving.

--

The rule requiring commercial and tour and express buses to have speed limiters will be implemented in stages.

The Transport Ministry says enforcement will begin on October 1st, involving vehicles that are registered after 2015.

For older vehicles, the rule will come into force from either January or July 2026.

Companies that fail to comply will face penalties, including having their licenses revoked.

An Air India flight from Phuket to New Delhi has been forced to turn back, after it reportedly received a bomb threat.

This comes a day after another Air India plane crashed, shortly after taking off from the Indian city of Ahmadabad, killing over 240 people.

Meanwhile, search teams have recovered one of the plane's black boxes, which should shed light on what caused the tragedy.
