No U-Turn On RON95 Rationalisation

Jun 16, 2025

no u-turn on ron95 rationalisation

The government is going ahead with its planned RON95 petrol subsidy rationalisation.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the reallocation of subsidies is needed to ensure there are enough resources for vital initiatives including education, healthcare and poverty eradication programmes.

He also assured that the rationalisation will NOT affect the majority of Malaysians.

This, amid calls from some quarters to delay its implementation.

It also comes amid a recent surge in global crude oil prices, following the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.

At last look, Brent Crude was priced at $69.92 per barrel.

Speaking of which, Datuk Seri Anwar has urged the US and Europe to do more to push Israel to stop its attacks on Iran.

The strikes, targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities, prompted Tehhan to retaliate with its own missile attacks against Israel.

Over 20 people have died in Israel since last week, while Iran's official death toll stands at over 220.

The Online Safety Act has received royal assent from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and will be enforced soon.

The Law and Institutional Reform Minister says the Communications Ministry will decide on the implementation date.

The act was passed in parliament last year, requiring social media firms to ensure platform safety, protect children under 13, and restrict access to harmful content.

They must also submit an annual Digital Safety Plan detailing their safety strategies and accomplishments.
