CUEPACS Opposes Hiring Indonesian Nurses

Local nurses MUST be given priority when filling up vacancies in hospitals.
The civil servants’ union CUEPACS said this, following a proposal to hire nurses from Indonesia.
It pointed out that many Malaysian nursing graduates are still waiting for job offers.
CUEPACS adds that local nurses offer higher quality services, as they undergo rigorous training by the Health Ministry.

A court in Penang has handed a woman a RM10,000 fine for committing infanticide five years ago.
The George Town High Court decided on the fine, in lieu of a prison sentence, considering her mental health.
It said it took into consideration the 23-year-old diagnosis of major depressive disorder, and her high risk of committing self harm.
She was initially charged with murdering her newborn baby in 2020.
However, the charge was later reduced to infanticide, which applies to mothers suffering mental disturbance after childbirth.

The Home Ministry has vowed to look after the welfare of a policeman in Kedah, who was killed while attempting to thwart a house break-in.
Its minister says this includes speeding up the delivery of gratuity payments, rewards, and contributions to his next of kin.
Earlier reports said the cop was struck and killed by an SUV driven by the suspects.
Meanwhile, the four suspects have since been arrested and remanded for 7 days for police investigations.

Separately, the Home Ministry, over 6,000 Malaysians gave up their citizenships in the first half of this year, in order to become Singaporean citizenship.
Meanwhile, nearly 17,000 Malaysians did so throughout last year.
