cops probe attack on ex-minister's son

Police have confirmed that the son of former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli was assaulted at a shopping mall in Putrajaya yesterday.

According to the ex-minister, his son and wife were getting into a car before a man grabbed the 12-year-old and pricked him with a syringe.

Cops say investigations into the incident are ongoing, and that they're currently reviewing CCTV footage from the scene.

The Defense Ministry and Armed Forces says there will be no compromise regarding illegal activities by their personnel.

They also gave their assurance that they will fully cooperate with the MACC in their investigation into a smuggling syndicate.

This, after the commission earlier arrested 10 people, including officers from the ilitary’s intelligence unit, for alleged links to a syndicate involved in banned items such as drugs, cigarettes and other contraband.

The total financial loss from online scams so far this year has reached 1.2 billion ringgit as of June.

However, the Home Ministry assured that several measures are in place to curb the issue such as expanding the National Scam Response Center into a 24-hour center.

In Terengganu, a primary school student sustained a facial fracture and broken nose after being allegedly assaulted by a group of schoolmates.

Police confirmed that the victim's mother lodged a report over the incident, which initial investigations suggest stemmed from teasing among the pupils.

The Negeri Sembilan government has made it compulsory for state department heads and civil servants to fly the national and state flag at their residences until Malaysia Day.

This, as part of efforts to foster patriotism during the National Month.
