Over 100 Jellyfish Sting Cases In Langkawi Since 2022

Nov 20, 2025

over 100 jellyfish sting cases in langkawi since 2022

Langkawi has recorded over 100 cases jellyfish stings since 2022.

According to the Civil Defence Force, 73 of these cases happened last year alone.

Meanwhile there have been 23 cases so far this year, including the Russian toddler who died due to complications from a jellyfish sting earlier this week.

Authorities have since responded to the incident by stepping up beach patrols and placing warning signs for swimmers.

Officials add that jellyfish stings used to be a rare occurrence for Langkawi, but it's now changing due to factors including climate change and storms.

The Shah Alam HIgh Court has dismissed a bid to conduct a new post-mortem on a UiTM cadet who passed away during a training programme last year

It's because the cause of death has already been confirmed to be heat stroke.

However, the court did ordered a new police investigation, and an inquest, to determine if there were contributing factors such as negligence.

The Home Ministry says is looking into a proposal to have police officers stationed permanently or semi-permanently at high-risk schools.

This is in response to several high-profile crime cases at schools recently.
