Bukit Aman says it has yet to receive any reports about the public falling victim to a new tactic, where people’s voices are recorded, manipulated with artificial intelligence, and used to defraud others on their contacts list.

However, cops are urging everyone to remain cautious and not divulge any personal information to strangers over the phone…and also to lodge reports about any suspicious calls or messages.

This, following claims about the ‘silent call’ scam…where are caller calls you but does not speak, in the hopes of recording your voice to be regenerated later using AI.

The Home Ministry says authorities are aware of and are closely monitoring the activities of a so-called cult from South Korea that has been operating here.

However, it says the group’s activities are so far not deemed a threat to national security.

Two workers have been killed, while three others were injured, after a coal-lifting crane collapsed at a power plant in Pontian, Johor yesterday.
