The government has launched a program, that will offer up to four thousand ringgit for Malaysians to replace their cars that are 20 years or older, with new models.

The initiative, which was first announced during the tabling of Budget 2026, will see the government forking out two thousand ringgit…with the balance to be matched by participating local vehicle manufacturers.

According to the Transport Ministry, the scheme is to reduce the number of old and inactive vehicles, and to have more cars with newer and better safety features on the road.

Separately, the Ministry is considering making defensive driving courses mandatory, especially for those with traffic offence records and suspended licenses…as part of efforts to improve the existing driver curriculum.

-

The Health Ministry is keeping a close eye on the Nipah virus infections in India.

It says its in constant contact with the WHO and relevant international counterparts to get the latest information.

In the meantime, the ministry says surveillance and control measures at the country’s international entry points will continue in accordance with established protocols.

A two-year-old toddler has died of suspected heatstroke in Seremban, after being left by his mother inside a parked car while she was at work for nearly nine hours.

The 35-year-old mother has since been detained by the cops to assist with the investigation.

-

Nearly three thousand open burning cases have been reported nationwide since the start of the new year.

The Fire and Rescue Department says this is a 300 percent increase from the same period last year, with the spike attributed to the current hot and dry conditions.
