Death penalty still exists in Malaysia

Jun 14, 2022

death penalty still exists in malaysia

The de facto Law Minister says the death penalty still exists in Malaysia.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar says even though the Cabinet has agreed to abolish the mandatory death penalty, it is still being implemented in court.

This is because the sentence is being governed by existing laws which have yet to be amended.

He adds that abolishing the mandatory death penalty means judges will have options to sentence those found guilty of a crime to either death, life imprisonment, or whipping.

Private health facilities can now apply to borrow medicines from one another or the nearest government facility.

The Health Minister says patients may also be referred to government facilities to undergo treatment, and may opt to buy meds at a Community Pharmacy with a prescription from a private clinic or hospital.

The ministry has also provided a list of affected products and the alternatives that can be used.

Khairy Jamaluddin says it’s among the measures to address the shortage of medicines, particularly at certain pharmacies and private health facilities.

Melaka cops uncover new Macau Scam tactic

death penalty still exists in malaysia

Police in Melaka have uncovered a new Macau Scam tactic to dupe victims by using a fake police document purportedly from the Melaka contingent.

The document claims the recipient is suspected of being involved in illegal activities and is told to cooperate with police within a specific time frame or risk being arrested.

Cops add that recipients are also warned not to tell others about the document.

As such, anyone who has received such a document has been urged to report the matter immediately.
