The government is aware of the concern over the expanded Sales and Service Tax, which is expected to come into effect next month.

Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has assured that steps are being taken to address the issue.

He adds that the Finance Ministry will be providing further clarification on the matter soon.

This, as the government is expecting the new SST adjustment to generate an estimated five billion ringgit in revenue in the first six months.

Earlier, the government explained that this revenue will be channeled towards the development of essential public infrastructure, including schools and hospitals.

The Communications Ministry says the Online Safety Act will be enforced soon, after several key processes related to the legislation are finalized.

Meanwhile, a special committee will also be set up to oversee the implementation of the Act.

Enforcement measures to curb the online sale of prohibited items like drug-laced vape products will be drawn up soon, following discussions by the relevant ministries.

This, as the Prime Minister called for more action to be taken against the rising usage of drugs and vapes among youth in Malaysia.

The EPF is advising contributors to consider opting for structured monthly withdrawals upon retirement...adding that lump-sum withdrawals risk depleting retirement savings too soon.

And, the US is reportedly directing its diplomatic missions overseas to resume student visa applications, a month after it stopped scheduling appointments.  

However, sources say applicants are now required to make their social media profiles public for vetting purposes.
