Google's Help Sought Over Extortion Emails

The Communications Ministry will seek Google's help to investigate the extortion threats that were emailed to political figures.
Its minister said this, after he confirmed that he himself received such an email.
He adds that MCMC has also been to help the police in their ongoing probe.
Several MPs, senators and state assemblymen received the emails, threatening to release AI-generated explicit images if they fail to pay hundreds of thousands of ringgit.

An NGO in Johor has warned that syndicates are recruiting local youths to help smuggle vapes and cigarettes into Singapore.
The group told the Singapore Straits Times that 77 such cases have been detected since last year.

Around 400 people have been taken to higher ground after heavy rains caused a water surge at their campsite in Kuala Kubu Baharu early this morning.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Dept says water levels have since receded.
In Penang, the Civil Defence Dept says at least two parked cars have been damaged after being hit by fallen trees following heavy rain and strong winds there.
And in Sabah, around 300 people are currently housed at temporary flood shelters in Penampang and Beaufort.
