Let's Give Jonassen Time

Aug 01, 2025

let's give jonassen time

The Youth and Sports Minister has backed calls to give national badminton coaching director Kenneth Jonassen time to address current issues with the singles squad.

She pointed out that Jonassen has only been on the job for half a year, and assured that her ministry will channel all the necessary support to the Badminton Association of Malaysia.

Earlier, badminton legend Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei said that Jonassen should not be burdened with high expectations so soon after his appointment.

They were responding to public criticism, after the disappointing performance of our singles players at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships in Indonesia.

--

Liverpool boss Arne Slot says Rio Ngumoha has every chance to become a first team regular next season.

Slot says the academy player needs to prove himself consistently, on the pitch and in training.

This, after the 16-year-old earned widespread attention in their pre-season campaign, including scoring a goal in their recent pre-season friendly against Japan's Yokohama F Marinos.

--

Victor Gyokeres has had a losing start to his Arsenal career.

The striker, who joined the Gunners from Sporting Lisbon, made his debut in last night's pre-season friendly against Tottenham in Hong Kong.

Spurs won the match 1-0, thanks to Pape Matar Sarr's opening goal.

--

Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson has played down concerns that he could leave the Club World Cup winners, due to increased competition in his position.

Recent reports had linked Jackson with Man United, after the Blues signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

--

Other reports claim that Chelsea are ready to make a move for Alejandro Garnacho, who is out of favour at Man United amid a falling out with boss Ruben Amorim

According to UK media, the Blues conducted a background check on Garnacho's personality and character, and determined that his behaviour is NOT a cause for concern.
